Be Social, Inspire Justice: “Everyday Activism for Racial Justice”

Date:
Tuesday, June 30th, 2015 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm
Location:
YWCA Pierce County | 405 Broadway | Tacoma, WA 98402

Recent events across the country have shed light on racial inequality, and Tacoma, like many communities, has seen activists and civic leaders coming together to work for change. As part of the YWCA Pierce County’s mission to eliminate racism, they invite community members to join them as facilitator Cathy Nguyen, Tacoma’s poet laureate and co-founder of Tacoma Stands Up, discusses the importance of recognizing our own privilege and incorporating activism for racial justice into our everyday lives. YWCA’s Education and Prevention manager, Jennine Devenuti, will also be present to help participants understand the intersections of racism and domestic violence.

This Be Social, Inspire Justice event provides a platform for respectful community dialogue, and will help the audience learn different ways to engage in racial justice work in our own lives.

Be Social, Inspire Justice is a quarterly event held by the YWCA Pierce County for donors, volunteers, and supporters interested in learning more about the many aspects of domestic violence education and prevention.

Please RSVP to [email protected] if you plan to attend. Find more information on the event’s Facebook page.
